In most major cities, the higher priced neighbourhoods are usually those that are along the major transit routes and have easy access to great schools and amenities.
If you're interested in living in one of Canada's larger cities and you're not sure which is right for you, than you should consider the possibility of good employment in that centre. The average fulltime income in all of Canada's top ten cities is between $40,000 and $50,000 per year but each city has its own major industries. You may have more financial success working in a corporate company, even though the home prices are much lower in Alberta.
Canada is one of the most diverse countries in the world and it's likely that no matter which city you choose, you will find a home here. You could stay out late listening to salsa music on the weekends in Montreal or could hit the slopes after work in Vancouver.
